FIOHs philosophy
FIOH are committed to the global environment and a globaly fair distribution of wealth. Our philosophy is based on the encouragement of values such as cooperation, sharing, fellowship, truth and non-violence, rather than on dogmatic approaches to solving world problems. The value emphasis, however, gives the philosophy an international relevance. For example, exploitation can filter down to the lowest levels of the poorest societies. The movement is non-religious, non-party-political and is open to anyone, no matter what their religious beliefs or none, who are seeking to make the above values the basis of their way of life. ___________________________________________________

We are currently focus our work around folowing areas:
Empowerment, education and vocational training - Involvement of women in development processes  - Distribution of  information that will help to spread the philosophy of the movement.

History, ideology and policy of Future in Our Hands
Future in our hands was founded by Erik Damman in Norway 1974. Erik Dammann, stresses, in particular, the need for lifestyle changes in the affluent society. He maintains that international social justice cannot be achieved without a general lowering of material living standards of most people living in the rich countries.). It´s Norway's largest movement for comprehensive social change. The same inspiration that brought it to life has also produced FIOH groups in USA, Sweden, Great Britain, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and several other countries. We are committed to the global environment and a globally fair distribution of wealth. We believe the two are inseparably linked, in a way that requires us to work on both subjects in an integrated way. The movement has about 23.000 members in Norway, and currently focus it's work around three pillars:
1. Consumption and quality of life. Create support for the need for a reduced consumption of natural resources in Norway, to protect the environment and the world's poor Create a longing in the population for a less commercialized society, and a lifestyle with a reduced focus on materialism.
2. Fair distribution. Create support for global redistribution, where the poor improve their living conditions, and the rich reduce their consumption of natural resources. Work to reverse the flow of capital, which currently runs from the South to the North.
3. Business ethics. Norwegian business and investments in poor countries shall contribute to leveling global inequalities, and improve environmental conditions. Environment and human rights shall not be sacrificed for the sake of business- and investment profit.

As a part of FIOH “The Development Fund” was founded in 1978 as an independent from FIOH and non-government organization (NGO). They support development projects through local partners in Asia, Africa and Latin America. They believe that the fight against poverty must be based on sustainable management of natural resources. In 1998 The Development Fund was separated from FIOH as a unique organisation and is unfortunately not longer cooperate with over organisation. As a small local branch of FIOH in Tønsberg we have anyway decided to also try working with inspiration from The Development Fund. We are now in a process trying to establish a sort of new cooperation with the Development fund.
